1.Any person having a Postgraduate Degree or its equivalent, of GU or any recognized university/institute with not less than 55 (fifty-five) percent of marks or equivalent grade in the concerned subject may apply for admission to the Ph.D. programme in the subject in which the candidate has the Master’s Degree or in a subject recognized by the respective department as its allied subject which will not be vice-a-versa for consideration by respective Departmental Research Committee (DRC) or Faculty Research Committee (FRC). The minimum marks for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates or a differently-abled candidate (with equal to or more than 40% disability) is 50% or equivalent grade. A relaxation in respect of eligibility criteria in terms of marks shall be applied as per applicable rules and regulations of Govt. of Assam. 2.In case of any special eligibility conditions or deviations from the above generic eligibility conditions, concerned DRC may submit the proposal to the Academic Registrar for consideration and necessary approval from the Vice Chancellor. 3.In case of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, the rules of National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Profession (NCAHP) /Indian Nursing Council/Rehabilitation Council of India or recommendation of Faculty of Medicine for Clinical Courses shall be followed (where necessary). 4. Students who have appeared or are appearing in their postgraduate final examinations may also apply for admission into the Ph.D. Programme. However, such candidates will be required to furnish their results before the final selection list of successful applicants is prepared by the concerned department. 5. International Applicants: An International Applicant is one who is not a domicile of India. The Counselling Process for International Applicants can be carried out through other methods of available technology/Online. Before one can be considered for admission into the PhD programme, the following eligibility conditions MUST be fulfilled. Candidate MUST have passed Masters level examination from a University/Institution recognised by the UGC. a) He/she MUST have secured at least 55% or equivalent grade in Masters examination. b) Qualifying Examination: For admission into the PhD Programme of GU, a candidate MUST have passed a course which is equivalent to the two-year Masters Programme of India, which is usually taken after twelve (12) years of school and three (3) years of undergraduate course, completing a total of 15 years of education. That is, an international applicant MUST have had 17 years of formal education before he/she can be admitted into the PhD Programme. This may vary depending on different disciplines. c) An International Applicant will have to demonstrate proficiency in English either through standardized tests such as TOEFL, IELTS etc., or through a proven record of receiving education in the English language over a considerable length of time. d) While considering international applications, the DRC (or FRC) of the concerned department will take into consideration the merit of the research proposal, reference letters, and scores of standardized tests such as GRE. e) There is NO application fee for International Applicant. 1. A Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from Gauhati University or any other recognized University, with at least 50% marks in aggregate or in the Honours/Major subject (where applicable). 2. A relaxation of 5% in the minimum qualifying marks shall be provided to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) categories and to differently-abled candidates with 40% or more disability, as per prevailing norms. 3. Candidates appearing in the final semester of their Bachelor’s Degree programme, and having no arrears/backlogs in earlier semesters, may also apply. However, if selected, they must fulfil all eligibility requirements of the MBA programme and submit proof of meeting the prescribed criteria prior to the commencement of the first semester MBA examinations.
